The Case for Mountaintop Post-Wedding Imagery

You’ve spent months planning the perfect wedding, every last detail is executed perfectly. So when it finally comes to your wedding day, you want to enjoy it. You want to spend time celebrating your union with all your friends and family. Having cocktails with grandma, dancing with your nephews, toasting with your bridal party & groomsmen. Your friends and family will want to offer their blessings, and trust me- the day will fly by. If you are able to plan a post-wedding photoshoot then you won’t have to worry about spending 3 hours getting photos with your partner, you *just might* even have 10 minutes to sit and relax.

Taylor had originally asked me to shoot her wedding at JPL but I was unable to, so I offered her to book my post wedding heli-shoot instead. Needless to say, she jumped at the chance.

Teal coloured river winding throughout lush pine valley as seen from eagle view. Mountains surround the river.

The morning was incredibly windy but there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. Just as we arrived at the heli-pad, the wind began to mellow out. We did our safety meeting, and away we flew.

The views of the winding Fraser River, the top of Mount Robson, and the Kiwa Glacier were absolutely spectacular.

Once we had landed, I gave the bride and groom a few minutes to appreciate the spectacular scenery, and then off we went. As a documentary photographer, I do try to capture more natural intimacy, but encorporate some subtle guidance with posing. We pretty much just had an incredible afternoon, in one of the most beautiful locations. The heli-session shoot time is roughly 45 minutes on the ground.

The prompt for the images below was “Do something unique to you and your relationship. Something that you would do if I wasn’t here.” As you can see, the groom caught the Bride off-guard. By this time, the sun had gone behind the mountaintops, and the valley had started to descend into a bit of a blue hour.

Not all post-wedding imagery has to be a heli-session, but Valemount is blessed with several spectacular areas that we have access to whether it be by foot or by helicopter. Heli sessions start at $2199.00 and go up, depending on the location.
